This Association was founded in 1976, known then as the Saratoga County Chief's Association.
The goal of the Association is to coordinate problems encountered by individual departments through the Fire Advisory Board and the Office of the Fire Coordinator.
- to disseminate information to all member departments
- to bring about a closer working relationship between departments, the Fire Advisory Board, the County Fire Coordinator and the County Board of Supervisors.
- to make recommendations to the County Board of Supervisors as to the qualifications of individuals filling appointed positions.
The Association was born as a result of the County Board of Supervisors voting to put the position of County Fire Coordinator under the control of the Sheriff. Then, the Undersheriff would oversee the Fire Coordinator.
Fire Chiefs throughout the County did not agree with this decision and felt the Fire Coordinator should be under the Office of Emergency Services / Civil Defense.
Many fire departments rallied at a county board of supervisors meeting protesting the movement, as such, the voices were heard and the decision was rescinded. To this day, the Fire Coordinator remains under the Office of Emergency Services.
The Association meetings are held on the third Monday of each even calendar month except for December. Meetings start at 7 PM and are hosted at a different firehouse within the County.
